This is not the first time WhatsApp has done something to alarm the users and their data privacy. Even though WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging apps, it is known to be a security nightmare with no end-to-end encryption for a long time. Even today, there is no end-to-end metadata and no third-party backend (i.e. iCloud, Google Drive).
In fact, until July’20, WhatsApp was maintaining that it never shares any data with Facebook whatsoever. All that will change with the latest policy changes. The new changes aren’t just disingenuous but harmful to the privacy of the users.
Signal becomes the most downloaded app on the PlayStore
A sudden rise in the number of downloads made Signal the highest downloaded app on the App Store and Play Store in India. Many users are shifting from WhatsApp to Signal as they’re now looking to settle into the new app and bring their family and friends over.
While creating a Signal account can be very easy, but adding your family and friends in their respective groups could be troublesome. However, Signal does offer a neat solution to move chats from WhatsApp to Signal.
How to move chats from WhatsApp to Signal groups easily?
- Create the group on Signal
The first step in order to get the existing WhatsApp group on Signal would be to download the app and create a new group on Signal. Add at least one member manually for creating the group. Give the group a name and add a group display picture if you want.
- Get the shareable group invite link
Once you have created the group, go to the Group settings where you will find the ‘Group Link’. Copy the shareable invite link.
- Send the invite link to family and friends
Once you’ve received the group invite link, start sharing it in your previous groups on WhatsApp. This will allow the users to directly join the newly created Signal groups eliminating the need to find and add each one of them manually.
