Global research firm IDC’s new market survey on smartphones revealed that India witnessed the highest growth of smartphones towards the end of October with a shipment of 21 million units and 42 per cent YoY growth.
The report also stated that because of numerous online sales festivals and increased demand from the Q3 2020 escalated the growth of the device. The report added, “This is the highest ever October shipments and 2nd highest for a month, following 23 million units in September 2020, an all-time high for a single month.”
One of the major differentiating aspects of this month was that 25 per cent of the market belonged to top tier cities such as Kolkata, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, and New Delhi. These cities also registered a 50 per cent YoY growth in the month of October. The report also claimed that in the month of October the Market Operating Price stood at $190.
When we now speak about the top five smartphone companies, the South Korean smartphone maker Samsung gained 20.6 per cent share, Xiaomi had 24.8 per cent share, while Oppo, Realme, and Vivo gained 12.3 per cent, 13.8 per cent, and 17.8 per cent.
The report further added, “Online channels fueled growth in the US$100-200 price segment, clocking in 93% growth YoY, collectively accounting for almost half of the sales in October. The midrange segment (US$200-300) accounted for almost a fourth of devices sold in October and the premium segment (US$500+) registered 16% YoY growth in October.”
