Honor V40 codename and MediaTek chipset leaked ahead of launch

Vivo V40 codename and MediaTek chipset leaked online amidst delay in launch

Honor was widely expected to announce the launch of Honor V40 series in December. However, a recent report has revealed that the official launch has been postponed to January of 2021. Moreover, a fresh leak reveals that Honor might only announce one Honor V40 model for the time being.

Last year, Honor officially launched the Honor V30 series in November. Hence, the rumors that successors Honor V40 and V40 Pro may likely come out around the same time this year.

Honor V40 codename surface online

Honor V40’s official launch is just around the corner, making it the first smartphone after Huawei sold the brand. A trustworthy Chinese tipster has leaked the codename for the upcoming V40, revealing some key details. The report revealed the code name for the upcoming handset – YORK as well as the model designation being YOK-AN110. Moreover, Twitter tipster TEME also seemed to confirm the launch of Honor V40 being delayed to January’21.

Honor could only launch the Dimensity chipset variant

The report on Weibo leaked that because of Kirin shortages, the handset is going to come in only one variant. The Kirin-powered variant has been scraped with the Dimensity variant being the sole variant launched.

The tipster further added that Honor was originally planning to launch multiple V40 models. One variant was expected to be powered by the Kirin 9000 while the other one was expected to house the Dimensity 1000+ SoC.  This is not the first time such news has popped up, so it is likely to be true. Moreover, there are rumors if the device will feature the Dimensity 1000+ or the upcoming 6nm MT6893 chipset. Regardless of the processor that powers Honor V40, the benchmark leaks suggest that the device will likely be very powerful.

Other rumors have hinted that the V40 is expected to feature a 6.72-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The rear-facing camera is likely to house a 40MP Sony IMX700 RYYB primary lens. Moreover, it is likely to sport a dual front camera to capture crystal-clear selfies. The Honor V40 is also likely to support 40W wireless charging and 66W SuperCharge. It is likely to arrive with features like 5G technology, glass build, Wi-Fi, stereo speakers, and USB Type-C.
