Amazon Fresh to give a competition to the Indian e-tailers?

Amazon launches its online grocery store Amazon Fresh in four cities – Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Pune

Amazon India is all geared up to give a tough competition to the Indian e-tailers like Grofers, Big Basket and Reliance’s Jio Mart by expanding its Amazon Fresh operations in 4 more Indian cities. On November 5, 2020, Amazon India announced the launch of its online grocery store Amazon Fresh in Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Pune.

These stores are to come with a specialized network of ultra-fast delivery services. The new Amazon Fresh stores offer 4-hours delivery slots between 6 am to midnight on Amazon.in.

Amazon Fresh stores to accumulate groceries, daily essentials, fruits, veggies, dairy products, dry groceries, personal care and home care. To ensure safe storage of product in the refrigeration and the freezer zone, a specialized infrastructure has also been designed.

Amazon India claims to have over 5000+ products available in their stores.

In the last few months, customers have increasingly trusted us to enable the delivery of essentials safely at their doorstep. We have ramped up our operational capabilities in cities where we already offered this service, and added 4 new cities ahead of the festive season to meet customer needs” he added.

Although as of now, the delivery is available on a selected location, it would soon cater to the wider delivery range. “Customers can now order the freshest fruits and vegetables as well as everyday grocery and get them delivered within 4 hours. The service is currently available in select pin-codes and will be soon rolled out across the city” says Siddharth Nambiar, Director- Category Management, Amazon India.

The company plans to offer free delivery on orders above Rs 600, and charge Rs 29/- for order below Rs 600. Amazon India also implements preventive measures in the Amazon Fresh centres, taking in consideration of the current pandemic situation.

Amazon Fresh already had a customer base in the 4 cities – Bangalore, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, and now Mumbai. This makes it to have customers in a total of 8 cities including Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Pune.
