OnePlus 8T launch: What to expect?

The company’s latest offering will come with Android 11-based OxygenOS 11. But this won’t be all it’ll be launching

OnePlus will launch its latest offering OnePlus 8T on October 14, 2020, and then hold a virtual pop-up event for people to unbox, experience, and purchase the newly launched smartphone.

According to OnePlus, the pop-up event will offer a “unique engagement experience for the community”. Before the pandemic, OnePlus used to host pop-up events at it stores for users and fans to have a first-hand experience of its newly launched phones.

Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, recently tweeted that the OnePlus 8T will be 8.4mm thick and will weigh 188g. The device will come with Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 and support 5G. It will sport a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and will also come in a new colour — aquamarine green. This specific variant has a glossy back cover that is thin, sturdy and reduces fingerprint accumulation. It is also expected to come in a Lunar Silver variant.

The smartphone will be up for sale through Amazon India and the OnePlus website. The company has not revealed the price officially. But, according to the listing on Amazon Germany, the 8GB + 128GB storage variant costs Rs 51,700 and the 12 GB + 256 GB storage variant is priced at Rs 60,000.

According to a tweet by tipster Mukul Sharma, the device’s quad rear camera setup will have a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 primary sensor, 16MP wide-angle shooter, 5MP macro camera, 2MP monochrome sensor. And, Sharma claims that the front camera will be a 16MP Sony IMX471 sensor. The leaked specs include Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC.

OnePlus 8T will be launched in India through a virtual event that will be livestreamed on the brand’s website and YouTube. The launch event will be held at 7:30 pm IST and the pop-up will take place at 8.20 pm IST. The company will also launch the Buds Z TWS and the Bullets Wireless Z at the same event.
