OnePlus 8T 5G launched: Price, specs and how it’s different from Samsung S20 FE

Find all about what makes OnePlus’ latest flagship that launched at a starting price of ₹42,999 special

OnePlus has finally unveiled its flagship smartphone of the year — OnePlus 8T 5G in India. The premium smartphone comes in two variants: 8GB + 128GB (₹42,999) and 12GB + 256GB (₹45,999).

The 5G phone is said to be an upgraded version of its predecessor OnePlus 8. Let us take a look at its specifications to find out what is so different about the new OnePlus 8T.

OnePlus 8T: Design

The smartphone comes in a glass rear to avoid any fingerprint marks. It will be available in two colours: Aquamarine Green and Lunar Silver. It is lightweight (188g) and is 8.4mm thick. The compact design makes the mobile easier to handle.

OnePlus 8T: Display

At 6.55 inches, OnePlus 8T brings Full HD+ 120hz fluid AMOLED display to the table. The display also sports HDR10+ certification and 1,110 nits of brightness for a good colour accuracy. It also offers a sampling rate of 240hz with a flat display, which has A+ rating from DisplayMate.

OnePlus claims its 1080p+ resolution and display will give people a smooth and seamless gaming experience, both in display and performance. A punchhole display in the phone is said to give about 402 PPI pixel density.

OnePlus 8T: Performance and software

OnePlus flagship is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor with an upgrade to UFS 3.1 storage. For the gamers, it offers a multi-layered grade cooling system. The new Oxygen OS 11 will also be available with the Always-on display (AOD) which will show you your usage period, how many times you have unlocked your phone and many other notification icons.

Some of the other features are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, new gaming tools, and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

OnePlus 8T: Camera

The camera comes with a quad-lens setup: 48MP Sony IMX586 wide main camera, 16 MP ultra-wide camera, 5MP micro lens and 2 MP monochrome sensor. It offers 4K video with 60 fps to shoot and record videos seamlessly.

The 16 MP camera is assisted with Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) to reduce camera shakiness. However, the choice of using a two-year-old IMX586 sensor might give other phones of the same range an edge over this one.

OnePlus 8T: Battery

OnePlus 8T is also equipped with a 4,500 mAh battery compared to OnePlus 8’s 4,300 mAh. The device supports Warp Charge 65. A redesigned charger with Type-C USB output will be available with the phone. The battery is said to be optimal for light to medium level usage. However, many are disappointed with the lack of wireless charging in the new flagship.

OnePlus 8T: Undercutting Samsung S20 FE

OnePlus is set to dominate the new premium smartphone launches with its new flagship. The Electronics spoke to Ishan Agrawal, a tech reviewer, on how the OnePlus 8T plays out against its fierce competitor Samsung S20 FE. “Samsung is clearly trying to beat OnePlus at its own game by providing flagship features at a low cost, but they missed majorly when it comes to the performance segment,” he said.

The S20 FE uses Samsung’s Exynos 990 processor which is known for its battery life and performance issues, whereas the OnePlus 8T features the Snapdragon 865 5G processor along with Oxygen OS.  “The 8T seems like a better value considering the price difference of 7,000 between both the phones. But a lot of people might consider getting S20 FE too, thanks to features like IP68 water resistant rating, wireless charging capabilities and Samsung Pay,” Agrawal added.

OnePlus 8T 5G will be available for early access on October 16 and will go on sale from October 17 on Amazon.
