Huawei releases teaser on Mate 40’s ultra-wide camera

Ahead of the flagship’s release on October 22, the Chinese tech giant releases teaser showcasing its camera’s distortion correction capabilities

Huawei, which will launch its Mate 40 on October 22, 2020, has released a teaser for the smartphone. This one highlights the phone’s ultra-wide camera and its distortion correction capabilities. The teaser was titled ‘All in a straight line, all in one shot’.

The video showcases a distorted frame of plateful of noodles with a spoon and a fork on a table. And all this straightens out once the lens goes over the setup, hinting at distortion correction for the ultrawide lens on the phone.

The Chinese tech giant doesn’t reveal much about the smartphone. Here’s what all the leaks and rumors say.

Earlier, He Gang, a Huawei executive had posted a teaser image of the smartphone and while it was mostly obscured in shadow, two key details were clearly visible – buttons on the edge and a part of the camera block.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also shared a video on Weibo and suggested that the chipset could be Kirin 1020. He also said Huawei’s Mate 40 series may sport a new “freeform” camera design that will reduce distortion in wide-angle shots. Kirin 1020 chipset will offer more power than the Kirin 990 chipset of the Huawei P40 range.

Also, Teme, a tipster, on Twitter claimed that the Mate 40 range could come with the Kirin 9000 chipset. On the front, the devices will come with a dual punch-hole design. There is also the physical volume rocker system along with a power button on the side. All of the smartphones in the series will come with the 5nm Kirin 9000 SoC and feature different rear camera design.

Here are the different storage and color options of the Huawei Mate 40 series, according to Teme.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro:

  • Storage: 8GB + 256GB, 8GB + 512GB
  • Colors: Black, green, yellow-orange, white, silver-grey

Huawei Mate 40 Pro

  • Storage: 12GB + 256GB
  • Colors: White and black

Huawei Mate 40 Porsche

  • Storage: 12GB + 256GB, 12GB + 512GB
  • Colors: White and black

All the variants may not be available in every region since Huawei has released limited chipsets for its Mate 40 series.

Other launches for Huawei Mate 40 Global Conference on October 22

Huawei Mate 40 Series isn’t the only announcement expected at the Huawei Mate 40 Series Global Conference, which will be held at 8pm Beijing time. Here are the other devices that will be launched along with the Mate 40 series:

  • Huawei FreeBuds Studio, which will be the brand’s first headset
  • Sound X smart speaker series
  • Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro to be launched globally with the smartwatch already officially announced in China in September
  • A consumer ecosystem, which is yet to be named
  • More products in Huawei’s smart life ecosystem
