Apple has announced that it will charge $279 (Rs 20,500) to repair the screens of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. Although the repair charges are high, they have remained the same as those for iPhone 11 Pro.
The cost of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro is Rs 79,900 and Rs 1,19,990, respectively.
According to Apple’s website, the repair damage cost is to be incurred only when the phone is out of warranty or if you don’t own Apple’s subscription-based warranty plans like AppleCare.
AppleCare is a two-year plan meant to cover any damages to your Apple devices. The subscription for AppleCare+ Protection Plan can cost you Rs 16,900 (according to US pricing) for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini. The iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max coverage could cost roughly 26,900. The prices will increase if theft and loss coverage is added.
The difference in screen repair cost for iPhone 12 and its predecessor iPhone 11 is about $80. It costs $199 (Rs 14,000 approx) to repair the screen of iPhone 11.
It is likely that the prices have increased due to iPhone 12’s OLED screen display rather than 11’s LCD display.
The out of warranty repair cost for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models’ batteries can cost up to $69. Apple specified that ‘other damages’ are priced at a whopping $549, or about Rs 40,000, for iPhone 12 Pro, while iPhone 12 liquid damage repair costs $449 or roughly Rs 33,000.
The repair charges for iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max have not been listed yet.
The ceramic shield technology of iPhone 12 is claimed to be four times more resistant to any screen cracks from phone drops.
The iPhone 12 series’ prices start at Rs 69,900 (iPhone 12 mini 64GB) and go up to Rs 1,59,900 (iPhone Pro Max 6+256GB) with its OLED screen display feature. This shows that the prices have increased substantially since the last launched range of iPhones.
