The new generation of foldable phone by South Korean tech Giant Samsung was announced late night at Tuesday at the Galaxy Unpacked event-part two. The phone packs astonishing new features but the talking point of the event was the $2,000 price tag-which is $20 more than last year.
Galaxy Z Fold 2 was showcased earlier at the part on of the unpacked event on August 5. Although, leaks and tips forecasted a lower price point for the new standard for foldable phones, Samsung has packed loads of features in the Galaxy Z Fold 2 that appeared with the previous model. The Galaxy Fold 2 is a new and improved version of the previous model.
When Samsung launched the Galaxy Fold almost a year ago, the world witnessed a technology the was never actually seen before. A smartphone that folded outwards to present a tablet, that certainly excited most people. But the device had major flaws ranging from screen defects to UI issues. Samsung delayed the launch by almost five months to fix the issues.
While foldables will be tough to sell in this environment, Samsung always finds a crop of buyers who want the latest and greatest- and don’t mind paying for those features.
“We can all probably intuitively agree that [$2,000 is] the high end of what someone’s going to be willing to pay for a phone,” Drew Blackard, vice president of product management for Samsung Electronics America, said in an interview. “For all intents and purposes, this is a luxury item. That’s why we’re providing all the benefits along with it for device ownership.”
The Smartphone packs the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor coupled with 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. Galaxy Z Fold 2 sports a triple camera setup at the back. Both the cover screen and the inner foldable screen feature support for HDR10+.
The smartphone also packs a 6.23-inch SUPER AMOLED with 2,260 x 816 pixels and a 25:9 aspect ratio. Galaxy Z Fold 2 supports an Infinity-O display to house a 10MP selfie camera with a 60Hz refresh rate.
Galaxy Z Fold 2 is a smartphone that screams luxury. Not designed for the average consumer or the masses, the price tag is justified by the features it presents. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5G will hit stores on September 18th.
