Lenovo Legion Phone Duel On Paper Review: Better Than Asus ROG Phone 3?

Lenovo Legion Phone Review. Is it better than Asus's ROG Phone 3. Let's find out

Lenovo recently launched its first-ever gaming smartphone globally and it is pitted directly against Asus’s ROG Phone 3 since both phones will go live around the same time. As reported earlier, the Legion gaming phone will come with dual front-firing all-metal speakers with 1.4cc large cavities. Chen Jin, general manager at Lenovo, recently claimed that the Pro model of the Lenovo Legion gaming phone will have “the most impressive audio system of any phone” so far.

Lenovo was silent all these years and suddenly it came up with this best-in-class gaming phone.  This might be a clever move but if the Legion Phone Duel is not a hit for the gaming community then it will be very difficult for Lenovo to make a comeback again. Let’s see what the new Legion Phone has to offer:

Three years after the launch of its gaming sub-brand, Lenovo introduced the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel—the powerful, immersive, and ultra fast-charging smartphone with sub-6 5G for better coverage and tested speeds up to 2.52 Gb/s. It’s created specifically for on-the-go gamers passionate about high performance who prefer the comfort and convenience of playing entirely in horizontal mode.”

Design

Talking about the design of the Legion, the company has created a smartphone that resembles a hardcore gaming console. It has round edges with carbon fiber finish at the back along with company branding and dual-rear camera setup.

Upfront, the company has highlighted the front ferrying dual-shooter speakers to enhance the gaming experience. On the right side, Lenovo embedded dual ultrasonic trigger buttons that work as a virtual joystick. Besides, the smartphone comes with a dual USB Type-C charging port which allows the user to charge the smartphone even while gaming without a sweat. The company has tried giving a proper gaming look to the phone which is quite impressive.

Hardware Specifications

Under the hood, the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC with 5G support. The gaming smartphone is backed by advanced 5th gen memory chips, up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. This configuration is best-in-class and goes up against the newly launched Asus ROG Phone 3

Besides, it sports a dedicated built-in dual liquid-cooling arrangement and copper tubes that will dissipate heat to support long hours of gaming. Meanwhile, the company has also included dual vibration engines that provide a seamless gaming controller like experience while gaming.

Display

The Lenovo Legion Phone Duel flaunts a 6.65-inch Full HD AMOLED display with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. It has a 144Hz refresh rate panel with a 240Hz touch sampling rate which is one of the best offerings in the gaming smartphone market. The display configuration makes sure that the gaming experience is seamless and users don’t witness any lag while playing high-end games.

Battery

The Lenovo Legion Phone Duel is fuelled by a massive dual 2,500mAh battery divided between the top and bottom sections of the phone. It comes with a 90W Turbo Power Charging support which ensures a better changing speed. The turbo charge is capable of charging 0-50 percent of the battery in just 10 minutes and it took 30 minutes to fully charge the gaming phone.

The massive battery split into two sections is designed to reduce the heat effect coming out from the board.

Camera Specifications

On paper, the camera specifications didn’t impress us but the company has made some interesting camera experiments that are logically correct.

Lenovo has placed the rear camera in the middle of the back panel which comes with the combination of 64-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.89 aperture and a 16-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture. The dual rear cameras are capable of recording video in 1080p and 4K resolution at 30FPS.

At the front, the Legion Phone Duel offers a pop-up selfie camera with a 20MP camera sensor. But the interesting part is the camera placement. The pop-up selfie camera is placed on the right side of the phone.  It will be helpful for users who are into live streaming.

The side-mounted selfie camera will help them as a webcam and it is placed so cleverly that it won’t become a huddle while live streaming.

“You can remove the background and use AI to auto-enhance your image via our selfie editor featuring several unique retouching filters and correction options for adding a sense of style,” read Lenovo’s official blog post.

Price

The Lenovo Legion Phone Duel comes with a starting price of Yuan 3,499 (approx Rs. 37,320). However, price will vary for other countries. The gaming smartphone is available in 16GB and 12GB RAM variants. The smartphone is already selling in China and select markets in the Asia Pacific, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa). India is still waiting for the launch. Let’s see when the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel will hit the Indian market.

As for price, conventionally gaming smartphones are much cheaper than the ROG Phone 3 and at this price range there are more chances that Lenovo might attract the gamers towards the Legion Phone Duel.
