Virgin Galactic Gives The First-Ever Virtual Tour of Spaceplane VSS Unity

Virgin Galactic revealed the interior of VSS Unity which is anticipated to take flight later this year.

For the first time ever, British space travel company, Virgin Galactic offered a glimpse of its lavish suborbital spaceplane, VSS Unity which is designed for commercial space tourism. The trip with an initial cost of $250,000 per person is here to provide a sumptuous experience to the passengers who have signed up for the tour.

VSS Unity is SpaceShipTwo’s second spacecraft. Virgin Galactic proudly took to YouTube, to showcase the features and interior of VSS Unity, as it described the cabin as the center of attention. The virtual tour gave an insight into the weightless floating that can be enjoyed by the passengers. A total of 16 cameras have been installed to provide high definition footage to the passengers as souvenirs from the event. A large circular mirror in the cabin will enable passengers to see themselves while enjoying weightlessness.

The presence of a dozen windows in the cabin will allow the passengers to experience the beauty of space. Virgin Galactic’s chief astronaut instructor, Beth Moses who tested the last space flight described the cabin’s interior to support relishing the view of Earth from space – in every way possible. Passengers can move to any window or towards any person while remaining undistracted from the experience of space.

The spaceship uses the blue and teal aesthetic to color co-ordinate with spacesuits. The cabin also incorporates an automated mood-lightning feature to adapt the different phases of the spacecraft. The company stated:

At the pinnacle of the experience, as the Earth comes into view against the black sky of space, all lighting is extinguished, bringing an instant focus to the profoundly beautiful vista.

The cabin seats have been manufactured using “the highest-grade aluminium and carbon-fiber”. When the seat is left, it reclines automatically to provide maximum cabin space for the passenger to enjoy weightlessness. The seat continues to remain reclined during re-entry so as to direct the g-forces effortlessly. In zero gravity, the cabin becomes a “360-degree climbing frame.”

Each astronaut will have access to their own personal digital display which can be utilized to share live data during the flight.

British entrepreneur and Virgin Galactic founder, Richard Branson stated:

When we created Virgin Galactic, we started with what we believed would be an optimal customer experience, and then built the spaceship around it.

The company confirmed that it intends to execute the space venture with its first customers later this year. In the coming years, Virgin Galactic intends to operate five spaceships while expanding internationally.
